From Brooklyn to Cesar Chavez
The opportunity to continue legacy is critical to the existence of Increase Peace Everywhere (IPE). With the arrival of our Brick and Motor Store located in Boyle Heights, California, I stop and reflect on my family’s legacy in Boyle Heights. I think about the role that I, Dr. G and Chubs 217 have to assure that we continue the drive, determination and dynamic service that my mother and father provided by way of Ruby’s Bridal Boutique. With over 39 years of creating beauty and emotion in Boyle Heights, my parents enabled myself to stay grounded and understand the value of hard work and dedication. It was this bridal shop and the people that patronized our family business that showed me what it meant to be creative, soulful, funny, and hardworking. The experiences in our bridal business also exposed me to heartache, sadness, and the reality of poverty.
The opportunity to bring back to Boyle Heights what my parents created is exciting and liberating for myself and my family. IPE brings to Boyle Heights Peace Wear. It is my hope that IPE can also create emotion and encourage critical thinking. Therefore, I say from Brooklyn to Cesar Chavez because my family business was here when our street name was Brooklyn and we continue grinding on Cesar Chavez. I am excited for the possibilities that will evolve as we help create community, love and peace on our block! Come join me, Dr. G and Chubs 217 when you can at 2014 Cesar Chavez Ave in the amazing Boyle Heights. You can find me dancing, dialoguing and creating community with our IPE Tribe members.
In Solidarity,
